Unfortunately Long Lasting Souvenirs

Updated: Oct 5, 2024

Joyce Lubotzky, a talented artist hailing from Sydney, has a unique approach to her craft. She intricately weaves together discarded remnants of consumer culture, transforming them into thought-provoking pieces that she aptly refers to as "Souvenirs of Consumerism." Through her art, Lubotzky delves into the complex relationship between individuals and the material world around them. Her work serves as a poignant commentary on the pervasive impact of consumerism on our society, prompting viewers to reflect on their own consumption habits and the broader implications of a culture driven by materialism. By repurposing these discarded fragments, Lubotzky not only challenges conventional notions of art but also highlights the beauty and potential for reinvention in what others may perceive as mere waste. Each piece created by Lubotzky is a testament to her creativity, vision, and unwavering commitment to exploring the boundaries of contemporary art.

Getting the photographs takes some involvement and dismantling and cleaning the tripod afterwards. Photographers are often known for their lack of fashion sense when it comes to dressing themselves .

After meeting at the 2023 Northern Beaches Environmental Art Prize, where we were both finalists, I did a photoshoot in early 2024 using the Trash Cam Mk I from the exhibit. We took photos of Joyce near the Coogee coastline with her "souvenirs."

The photographs created a lot of interest and have been placed in Highly Commended or Finalist categories in 2 Photographic Competitions..

There is a log of location lighting I used to get this result, as the available light was fading. This image is my favourite. but has not received any awards.
